Lolitas love talking about themselves, have done so since the style began. This is an updated version of the 100 Questions for Lolitas from 2001 translated from Japanese to English by Howtobecomeanangel. I combined a few different quizzes of a similar kind into this to replace dated questions about going to lives and your phone ringtone with questions more relevent to today's lolitas. I hope you'll enjoy reading my answers and answer the questions yourself! You can find the answerless and pre-formatted text below.

  9. Are you in a community or are you a lonelita?: I have a countrywide and online community, but I don't get to see my friends from elsewhere in the country very often. So apart from getting to see my comm once or twice a year in person I'm functionally a

  19. What is the most un-lolita-like thing you have done in lolita?: Probably jump over a fence to get out of a rural festival lol.
  20. Do you have a favourite music genre or band?: I like a lot of pop-punk emo-ish stuff, Fall Out Boy is unironically my favourite band.
  21. What are your favourite coord colour combinations?: Pink x rainbow > everything
  22. What are your hobbies outside of lolita?: I enjoy embroidery, sewing, playing on my 3DS and blogging. I'm also a pretty big nerd and a huge BL fan.
  23. What is your favourite perfume?: Miss Dior Rose n Roses, which I don't currently own but I will someday. Of perfumes I do own, it's Wild Rose Eglantine by Woods of Windsor which is a discontinued perfume from 1970...
  24. Do you have a favourite type of lace?: I love embroidered cotton lace! And also all custom AP lace.
  25. What is your favourite thing to do or place to go wearing lolita?: I loove going to a pretty little cafe and getting a cute cake. My favourite place nearby is a French patisserie that always has cute new items. I also love to go shopping!
  26. How many times do you wear lolita a week?: I try my best to wear it once a week, but I can't always sadly.
  27. What is your favourite time of year to wear lolita?: Early spring, late autumn. When it's not too hot for the layers and not so cold that I have to cover everything up with a coat.
  28. Do you have a favourite lolita/does anyone inspire you?: I have so many lolita inspirations. Princess Peachie was my original inspiration, of course. I'm also very inspired by my comm members, especially dreaming.marine on instagram.
  29. What is your favourite hairstyle in lolita?: Twintails! I love big twintails right onthe top of your head, I think the height and volume is great for lolita. I also love loosely curled hair.
  30. Have you worn wigs in lolita?: I have not, but I would like to try someday. I'd love to get a milky brown or a blonde wig with big clip on twintails.
  31. Do you have a dedicated place for storing lolita?: I have one side of my wardrobe and two drawers in my dresser dedicated to my clothes and accessories. My jewellery is displayed on a wall hanger and on little plates on my dresser.
  32. What's one item you regret buying?: Hm... I don't think there's anything I regret buying as I'm always quite slow to buy items and think about it a lot before I purchase it. However I have many, many items I regret not buying lol.
  33. Is your room or house decorated to complement your lolita style?: Yes! I've done my best to decorate my room to be as cute as possible with lots of plushies, trinkets and crafts. I also have a lot of otaku stuff around my room too.
  34. First ever purchase?: A strawberry dress by Alice Girl from loligals :'D
  35. Most recent purchase?: My pre-order of Fancy! Mahou Shojo Patisserie by Sleepyland!! I'm so excited for it to arrive in July ahh!!! This dress really has been on my wishlist for a long time, I never throught I would get to own it.
  36. Do you have a default pose for photos?: Turn one leg to the side and hold the edge of my skirt lol
  37. Favourite type of lolita content? (dress reviews, tutorials, handmade/sewing, annual wardrobe posts, get ready with me, etc): I always love vlogs of lolita meets, even of simple meets like tea at someone's house or going to the mall. I also enjoy tutorials and hauls hehe.
  38. Is there a book or movie that isn't about lolitas but feels lolita-like to you?: I've recently been really into "villainess" anime because the fantasy aesthetics are very lolita to me :'D A bit embarrassing.
  39. Do you prefer casual lolita, OTT or somewhere in the middle?: I'm generally something in the middle, leaning casual. I love cutsews and my natural hair so I always look a little more casual.
  40. What are your dreams for the future?: Ahh that's so hard. I really don't know what I want in the future anymore! I do want to go to Japan again someday. I guess I'd just like to have a stable, simple and fun life. I don't want to struggle any more than I need to.
  41. What's one item you have that you would never sell?: Cotton Candy Shop JSK. I waited so long for that dress. Even if I graduated from lolita I think I'd still keep it tucked away somewhere.
  42. What do you prefer, flats, heals or platforms?: I like platforms! I like to have a bit of height and I enjoy the stability they give as opposed to heels. Also I think the chunky look is very cute with sweet lolita.
  43. Do you have an unpopular opinion about the fashion?: Lolita actually isn't for everyone. I think you should have a certain level of ability to dress and groom yourself before you attempt this fashion. You should also have the ability to comprehend rules and styles. Many people do not have this ability.
  44. Have you ever considered trying Ouji?: Not for me personally, no. But I do really admire ouji! I've only met one ouji before but he was sooo cool and I treasure my photos with him lol.
  45. Do you have any dolls? If so please tell us about them!: I don't have any dolls, but I have a lot of plushies and other vintage toys. Someday I would love to have a BJD to dress in tiny lolita fashions.
  46. What's the best feature a dress could have?: Pockets
  47. What's your favourite flower?: Roses (any scent heavy variety) followed by hydrangeas.
  48. What is your favourite accessory right now?: Probably my pink icing twin bows, they're just so perfectly sweet and I can also wear them to work lol.
  49. What is your current favourite cosmetic product?: I'm actually obsessed with my current night cream, Natio's rosewater night cream. It's so incredibly moisturizing and healing without being heavy. I've been putting it on my fingers as well as my face nightly. I really reccommend it to anyone who works in an enviroment where you skin gets covered in dust a lot and you have to wash it a lot.
  50. What is your go-to lip colour?: I like a deep, slightly dusty pink. My lips are quite pale so too pastel a pink makes them disappear lol.
  51. Have you ever used stickers or rhinestones on your face?: Yeahhh I loved doing that when I first got into lolita, though I don't really do it anymore.
  52. What's a brand you don't own many things from but would like to?: Aside from the obvious I want more Angelic Pretty, I'd really like to get some items from Dolly House. Her clay jewellery is so iconic of 2010s sweet.
  53. Do you paint your nails, get gels/acrylics or use press-ons?: I paint my nails for meet-ups, but usually have them plain as I work a job where my hands get dirty and roughed up a lot. I would really like to start wearing press-ons for meets, though.
  54. What is your go-to colour, theme or motif for your nails?: Pink, obviously. I also love stripes and using nail art stickers! They're such an easy and cheap way to level up your nails.
  55. Have you ever changed into your clothes or done your makeup in a public bathroom?: Oh yeah, back in my early days I would take the early morning train to the city with my little black suitcase and chain out of my civvies into coord in the train bathroom. So glad I don't have to do that anymore.
  56. Have you ever done a twinning coord? A triplet coord? What are your thoughts?: No but I'd really love to!! Twinning Cotton Candy Shop or any of the dresses on my wishlist would be a dream come true ahh. I especially like twins and triplets where everyone has a different colourway.
  57. Do you remember the first dress you ever saw? Do you still like it?: The first dress I saw that I remembered was Cotton Candy Shop by AP, it was the dress that made me want to wear lolita. I was just so drawn to the colours and motifs. I loved the hot air balloons.
  58. Do you ever go out by yourself wearing lolita?: I used to, but after some unpleasent experiences (I live in kind of a poor, dangerous city) I have stopped. It really just isn't safe to dress up too crazy where I live. And if I'm going out of my town I'm usually with friends.
  59. How often do you purchase new lolita items?: I wish I could say once a month, but it's more like once every few months. Or rather only a few times a year. I want more so bad but it's so expensive so I settle for making my own accessories.
  60. If you could only keep one pair of shoes, which would it be?: My most recent pair of Sheep Puff shoes, they're just so incredibly comfortable and go with nearly everything I own.
  61. What is your most expensive item and was it really worth that much?: Fancy! Mahou Shojo patisserie, it hasn't arrived yet but yes it will be worth it.
  62. Do you purposefully budget/save for lolita?: I do, I try to put away about $50 a week, which isn't a lot, but it adds up over time. (I have real life adult things to save for as well you know.)
  63. What is your favourite place to shop?: Mercari my beloved. Also from my friends when they get rid of stuff hehe.
  64. What are your real thoughts about for-profit resellers?: Die.
  65. Do you have a favourite brand mascot?: Usakumya! I'm so basic. Isn't it weird that despite being an Angelic Pretty stan my favourite mascot is actually Usakumya? Lyrical Bunny is delightful, but she's simply not a bear dressed as a bunny.
  66. Do you prefer bigger brands or indie brands?: Big brands for my dresses and indie for my accessories! I love clay jewellery.
  67. Do you drink tea, coffee or hot chocolate when you go out in lolita?: Hot chocolate all the way. Chocolate was very trendy with wealthy women in victorian times, so I think it's perfect for lolita.
  68. Do you have a lolita blog at all? Would you like to have one?: I have a blog, but I don't get to post about lolita nearly as much as I'd like to, mainly because being kinda broke means I can't engage with lolita as much as I'd like to :'D But in creating this updated quiz resource I'm hoping this will be the start of me creating more lolita goodies.
  69. Forget your dream dress, what is your white whale? (item you really want but is unlikely you will ever obtain): The BTSSB x Punkish NANA x Charmmy Kitty plush.
  70. Have you ever become interested in a hobby due to lolita? (sewing, embroidery, baking, flower pressing, etc): Oh SO many! I basically got into sewing because of lolita. I also have gotten really into cross stitch. I'd like to design some lolita specific cross stitch patterns in the future. I just think cross stitch (and embroidery in general) suits the lolita lifestyle so well! It's a great way to stay entertained while you're trying to save for your next event or item.
  71. Favourite pattern? (stripes, polka dots, florals, etc): Pokla dots! Not that I have many dot pattern items in my collection yet. I do also love stripes.
  72. Which animal do you enjoy seeing the most in dresses/accessories?: Bunnies 100%. Their big ears, up or flopped, are so adorable. I also love their soft feet. I wish designers would stop drawing bunnies with paw pads.
  73. Do you see yourself graduating from lolita as you get older?: Not intentionally graduating, no. But I can see my style becoming a bit lower effort as I age. I don't think I'll give up the cotton candy sweet lifestyle, but perhaps I may fade out the giant cupcake pettis and 2 inch platforms when I reach my Late 30s-40s. I see long pink lace skirts and flat mary-janes in my future.
  74. What do you think of people who only wear lolita once or twice a year?: My thoughts vary depending on circumstance. If they only wear lolita occasionally to events like conventions because they see it more like a costume then I don't think they really count as lolita. They don't live the lifestyle or carry it in their heart. But if they can only wear it occasionally because they live in an unsafe place then I'm totally understanding as I'm in a similar boat.
  75. What do you think of people that don't wear makeup or style their hair with lolita fashion?: I was like this when I first started ( ̄ ̄|||) I had no idea how to do makeup or style my hair so I had to start from the very beginning. I got the hang of styling my hair quite quickly but makeup took me a while to master. Even now I'd still not the best and can look very plain faced compared to my peers. I do think you can get away with no makeup a lot easier than getting away with unstyled hair. Hair is such an important component of a coord! It helps balanced out your headpiece. Meanwhile as long as your face is clean and taken care of, you can get away with just a bit of lip gloss and mascara.
  76. There's a Lolita wearing the same coord as you! What do you think?: I'm going to print out the coord photos we take together and hang them in a frame on my wall.
  77. Favourite platform for lolita content? (socials, blogs, etc): Instagram is great for daily lolita coords, I browse it daily hehe. I also adore watching lolita videos on YouTube and of course independant lolita blogs!
  78. If you could ban all lolitas from doing one thing, what would it be?: Buying from scammer-tier resellers. Maybe then the market will stabalize.
  79. Do you think lolitas should try to behave in an elegent, lolita-like way while in public?: I don't think lolitas need to act like perfect angelic dolls, no. But I do think they should behave to a certain degree. I'm find with lolitas going to bars and whatnot (the comm in my country regularly has a pre-meet at a bar lol) but I do think we should use our manners and not be overly obnixious or gross. Don't let your lolita fun get in the way of regular people's day or business.
  80. What do you think of boys wearing Lolita?: I think it's fine as long as they are respectful and their heart is in it the same way as a girl's would be. Lolita has a long history of succesful cross-dressing lolitas! As long as they have no ulterior motives such as picking up chicks.
  81. Has wearing lolita changed your life in any way?: Oh so much. It's introduced me to so many friends and even influenced me to go to Japan. It also inspired me to take better care of my body. Before I started wearing lolita I didn't even use a facial moituirizer, I just washed my face with cetaphil and went to bed. Now I have a whole skincare routine! I've also learned sewing and embroidery and run a zine for 5 years.
  82. What do the people around you say about you wearing Lolita?: They (mostly) think it's sweet that I have such a unique hobby. Seeing as most of my peer's hobbies are scrolling social media, gaming and drinking, it's seen as a very positive hobby (even though they may thing it looks a bit weird lol)
  83. How do you cope with the summer heat in lolita?: I don't ( ╥ω╥ ) I end up taking a bit of a break from lolita during summer unless I'm going to an event where I have to wear it. I usually wear my non-lolita but still cutesy dresses that don't require all of the layering. But when I do wear it I always have my hair in twintails to get it off my neck, wear short sleeve blouses, wear a sweat guard under my blouse to protect my dress and of course short socks. A UV proof parasol is also a must. I actually need to get a new one as my old parasol is so old I think all of the UV resistant layer has worn off.
  84. Do you wear Lolita to school/your workplace?: Nooo I work in a thrift store which is a really dirty place. Like yeah when you're shopping in the store it's clean, but I'm out the back digging through people's dirty laundry and knicknacks coated in a decade worth of dust! I wear plain black clothes that are easy to wash and worth in. Though I do like to wear cute earrings and add a lolita hair clip to my ponytail. I also have bright pink sneakers lol.
  85. What do you wear outside of lolita?: I wear a lot of sundresses, I like that I can just throw it on and look like I have a totally put together outfit despite it taking 0 effort. In winter I layer my lolita blouses or other shirts under lol. I really like using 70s-80s patterns to make dresses. I find if you just use a more modern fabric they look brand new and not at all like a 50 year old design. A lot of young women's dresses from the 70s work great without a bra too which makes them even more lazy to wear. And when I'm at home I'm in my jammies! If it's not AP it's PA!!!
  86. Is there any style outside of lolita that you would like to try just once?: Ok so, it's not out of lolita at all. But I'd love to try gothic lolita just once...
  87. What do you think of oshikatsu or otaku activities in lolita?: I loooove oshikatsu in lolita!!! Seeing all of the girl's in amazing coords in Ikebukuro really cemented this for me. I want to eventually make some ita bags of Olivine, Towa and Ryo so I can do this even more. Oshikatsu meet when??
  88. Are you opposed to second hand clothing?: I literally work at a thrift store.
  89. Do you have a partner? And do they understand Lolita?: No I don't, alas. Lolita is kind of like the girl equivalent of a brightly coloured poisonus frog. I need to find a guy who sees that warning, understands that warning and still accepts me anyway. Which... Honestly at this rate I'd have been better off if I was born a lesbian.
  90. What is your opinion on home-made lolita items?: I adore home-made lolita! With the current state of the market, I think now is a better time than ever to learn how to sew. Why buy an AP solid from 2014 for triple the retail price when you can learn to make a dupe at home! Lolita dresses also have delightfully simple construction, making them a great way to learn simple dressmaking.
  91. Have you ever made your own clothes? or accessories: I've made 3 JSKs and some random hair accessories and jewellery. I like turning keychains into necklaces or earrings lol.
  92. What elements make up your ideal coordinate?: I love when you nestle little bows and other clips around your KC.
  93. If you could open a shop in the future, what kind would it be?: Maybe a stationary or a candy store. Or both in one?
  94. Would you ever dress your child in lolita?: I think it would be lots of fun when they're a baby! Girl of boy I will put them in so many stupid costumes. As they get older though I would try to ask them what they wanted to wear. If they want to dress up with mum I would be delighted T^T but if they don't then that's ok too. I'm saying this all as if I'll ever get to have one (ಥ﹏ಥ)
  95. Is there a motif you adore that isn't very common?: Dogs and puppies are super cute in lolita. I love Angelic Pretty's classic poodle series.
  96. Is there a motif you enjoy that isn't yet in your wardrobe?: See above.
  97. Do you use a parasol?: I have a non-branded UV resistant parasol, but it's not very aesthetic. I'd love to get an AP one someday (though they aren't UV resistant are they?)
  98. Is there any lolita you wish you could meet someday?: I want to meet all of my mutuals and online friends.
  99. What is your image of an ideal Lolita?: A full AP coordinate with delicately curled twintails in a cute cafe with her friends.
  100. Are you nostalgic for anything that doesn't exist anymore?: For me the lolita golden age is 2012-2016. 2016 is the year the lolita I fell in love with began to die out, which is a shame as that's also when I discovered it. Cheap lucky pack dresses, pastel blogs, shakey-cam YouTube videos. That's a world I experienced so little of and I'll never be able to return to.
