Nakano Broadway!

February 24, 2025.

This day was a dream come true. I was truly in my element.
We got up nice and early on this day. I had to look my best for today because I was going to be visiting the Spank! Fairy Kei store!!! I wore the full set of my dream lolita fairy kei dress + the most "Fancy!" style sweater I picked up in Harajuku.

We got a little lost on our way to Nakano Broadway as we exited the station via the wrong exit (whoops) but eventually found our way in. And then proceeded to get wholly and entirely lost within Nakano Broadway's labyrinthine walls.

Oh what a wonderful place!! The first thing you should know about NB is that it is an absolutely beautiful vintage mall. The lower floors and basement are decorated to look like an adorable European village street. Complete with false balconies and cute little clouds in the fake sky on the ceiling. The top floor however is decorated to look like a sci-fi villian's secret base!

The second thing you should know about NB is it has absolutely everything. Every subculture you could think of. Including every single subculture I am obsessed with. It was mind blowing to be in a place full of all of the things that I love but nobody understands. Ultra girly fashion, vintage girl's toys, shojo anime trinkets, vintage tea sets, stationery collections, yaoi!!! Oh my god they have everything. We were in this mall from open to close and we still didn't get to do everything we wanted. I guess I should probably get onto the highlights reel.

The Gallery of Habaka

This little store revolves around licensed goods for classic 70s-80s Japanese anime and tokusatsu series, sofubi toys, baseball and other Old Japanese Man Otaku Hobbies. Half of the store was dedicated to Godzilla, tokusatsu and sofubi toys, while the other side was dedicated to their licensed anime and media pop ups. At the time, their main collaboration was with City Hunter. But they also had leftovers from previous pop ups, one of which was for Devilman!!! Koinuko really enjoyed looking at the Godzilla and Tomie stuff, while I went a little crazy on the leftover Devilman goods. I was a bit sad that there weren't any Devilman sofubi toys available as the franchise is known for its horrifically ugly toys. But that was ok as we saw many sofubi toys (mostly of Serine) in other stores in Nakano Broadway.

Spank! Fairy Kei Shop

Visiting the Spank! Fairy Kei Shop Was 2nd on my list of places to visit behind Harajuku when planning the Japan trip. No I am not joking. Spank! Is the Holy Land of Fairy Kei fashion. While I don't wear Fairy Kei myself (because I'm too fat for the silhouette) I do wear a lot of Fancy style lolita. I've wanted to visit this store for many years. I was actually nervous it may close down before I got to visit as they had a scare and had to move a few years ago.
It was a lot smaller than I expected! I believe they have downsized since Princess Peachie's Video Tour. But even though there was less stuff, I still bought a whole lot. I finally got that iconic Spank badge!!!

Mandarake Plastic

Nakano Broadway has multiple Mandarake stores for various different collectables. Mandarake Plastic takes up roughly ⅓ of the fourth floor and is dedicated to girl's toys. Dolls, magical girl toys, vintage western toys. It's the Mandarake for the girls. I was in heaven on this floor.

Unknown name "animecore" vintage store full of shojo toys

I have no idea what this store was called and I didn't get a photo of it due to the majority of stores in Nakano having "No Photo" signs so I just didn't even bother getting my phone out. But it's on the 3rd floor and it has an "animecore" collage on the front of it. Like it was covered in oddly edited print outs from moe 00s series like Lucky Star. Beside it is a huge row of bootleg ass lookin gacha machines full of second hand merchandise.
Inside was the motherload of shojo anime merchandise. Goods for every magical girl series you can imagine, sorted into these HUGE buckets, for a few hundred yen each. You could get full gacha sets for like 1000 yen. I bought so much there for so little... If you come across an animecore store in Nakano Broadway please go in!!!

Technobreak

This store was insane. It was one part cool gothic indie art store, one part sex shop. But unlike all the other gross, grody partial sex stores we'd stumbled into, this one had such a cool, gothic, weirdo vibe that it was actually cool. The artist side of the store was awesome, they had all sorts of edgy, gothic crafts and doujin. I picked up a Menhera-chan pin while I was there! I recommend it if you like weird stuff, just be careful going in there lololol.
