Auckgeddon recap
03/05/2026

Hello friends! How have you all been? Did you have a good Easter? I sure did, I ate lots of chocolate and went to an Easter fair with D! If you're ever passing through Foxton I highly recommend poping into
Mewingtons, the most aesthetic bookstore I've ever set foot in. I've actually done my best to spend the majority of the last month laying low and saving money in preparation for the big event I had planned for ANZAC weekend:
Auckland Armageddon Expo!
This was my first time ever going to Auckland Armageddon and like my 3rd time going to Auckland period (not counting airplane layovers lul). I went with my friend
Shit-Imma-Artist who was tabling as her booth assistant and also brought a few of my own zines and prints to sell! It was a loooong three days, I'd never done a 3 day con before. I somehow managed to wear lolita all 3 days.
I got to meet so many of my online lolita friends in person over this convention! It's always so interesting meeting my online comm irl, people I talk to almost daily and have never seen in person until now. One of my delightful friends even made me an Olivine bracelet. I brought my digicam with me and took some fun pics of us (and some cosplayers) on the crunchmax 3000. I got a lot of comments on the camera lol. People love the bedazzled digicam. I kind of want to make some stickers that say "I had my photo taken on the crunchmax 3000 and all I got was this lousy sticker" to give out to people I photograph lolol.
I picked up a
lot of goodies at this con. On day 1 I blew a solid 3rd of my budget at my favourite booth
Retro Nerds NZ for a big ol bundle of VHS tapes. I got the full set of
You're Under Arrest,
City Hunter and the first two
Urusei Yatsura movies! My tape collection is pretty impressive by now. I need to do a collection tour at some point... I haven't watched any of the films I got on tape this time and am very excited to do so!

Over the next two days I picked up a whooole lot of stickers, a few pins, some manga and a book! I was so surprised at the amount of BL related goods at this con. The craziest thing I picked up was a book called
Brake Me by Athena Bliss which is about a guy who fucks his sentient car. Holy shit. That was awesome. It was so stupid I loved it. My irl friend heard this book was being sold at the con and demanded I go over to the booth and buy it so we could have a book club reading around it. I told the guy at the booth this and he gave me a whole lot of freebies including bookmarks to share and an air freshener lolololol. I've already put it in my car.
After the con was over S and I made a short detour into Auckland CBD so that I could check out the Graphic Novel Cafe! It's an awesome manga store, it really felt like a manga store in Japan. They even had a BL section!! I wish there were cool stores like that around where I live. There are a lot of other places I wish I'd been able to explore in Auckland but alas we ran out of time. This con once again reminded me how much I've missed my lolita friends.
Speaking of missing my lolita friends though, looks like my local comm is about to rise from the dead! The two other girls who made up the comm for the longest time had been unable to do meets due to life getting in the way, but we were finally able to hang out and have a little picnic. Not only that, we were joined by a new lolita to our little comm:
Marin! I'm finally no longer the only sweet lolita in the region!!! It was also really cool to meet another person I knew from the smallweb IRL lol. Anyway we had a very casual picnic where I got to try out my picnic set and afterwards we looked around the park and took photos.

Since my last blog entry I completed a
Cardcaptor Sakura cross stitch and got the majority of the way through making a
plush bunny doll to match my pink polka dot JSK. However I don't have photos of either of these yet as I'm yet to find a nice frame for the cross stitch and I still need to embroider a face only my bunny. This blog is pretty image heavy as it is already so that's probably a good thing. Next I really want to make some new hair bows. I got some adorable iridescent ricrac at my op shop this week that would go great on some twin tail bows. As it gets colder I also feel the urge to cross stitch rise in me again. Maybe a big one this time... I love stitching!!!
I suppose we might as well get onto the media segment. I started watching
Witch Hat Atelier and man... I've put this manga off for a long time because I knew it would be life changing, but I could no longer put it off when the anime aired and yeah I was right. It is indeed lifechanging. Once the anime is over I will likely read the manga as fast as I possibly can. Coco is such a delight, I hope nothing bad ever happens to her (again). I've also started reading
The Husky and his White Cat Shizun which is quite fun. I've only read volume 1 so far, with volume 2 waiting for me to start. I've also already ordered vols 3-4. I've heard such mixed reviews about it, about how it's so toxic and horrible and how Mo Ran is to hateable. But so far (again only book 1) I'm finding it fun and stupid and Mo Ran is so friggin cute!! Like yeah he's an awful old man, and he's a total villain. But he's so
cute about it y'know? So far it feels like what if a trashy ecchi shonen anime was yaoi and I'm friggin keen on it! Delightfully sleezy.
Really weird, but I read a
Playboy magazine for the first time recently. When D and I were at that Easter fair we found a guy selling vintage Playbow and Penthouse magazines, so she bought a couple. They're both from the mid 70s and reading these magazines really shocked me. I was shocked 1, by just how much of the magazines was articles. From movies and TV I assumed it was all dirty pictures, but the majority was actually written dirty stories, reader submissions and opinion pieces! The 2nd thing I was shocked by was how normal and human the girls looked?? Yeah they had a face-full of makeup and shaved legs/arms/tummies etc but like... They had pubic hair and realistic bodies. They had skin folds, drooping breasts and naturally square bottoms, unlike the floating orb bubble butts/breasts and android smooth skin you see all over media today. Some of the nudie pictures honestly felt less dirty that stuff I see on Instagram that is considered "family friendly"! There were write-ins about how guys thought their wives round bellies, curves and body hair was attractive. It was fun while reading the magazine but afterwards it was really confronting just how warped and in-human modern men's ideal woman has become due to the insane acceleration of pornography. 50 years ago a man was jerking off to a poster of a beautiful but real woman photographed laying in a plush chair with soft lighting in a monthly magazine. Now they're jacking off to several implanted, edited, CGI and AI generated hyper fetish abominations on the daily. I'm not saying 70s Playboy is like the peak of respectful depictions of women but damn...

Anyway speaking of porn and objectification, have you guys been enjoying the new Nu: Carnival events? This island/nautical arc is so cool but also I can't wait for them to be off that damn island. There should be only 1 more island event left right? Everyone gets a nautical themed card? The Olivine card went
craaaaazy oh my god what do you MEAN he stabs himself in the event?! Oh my god. I forever adore that suffering priest. Also has anyone else noticed that the super dark events that come with a trigger warning in-game
always feature Olivine?? They love to put him thru some shit. Him and Garu man they love abusing those two. Very excited to get another glimpse at Rei's tragic past in the upcoming event.
Why yes I did pre-order the Eiden bunny scale figure and the nendoroid. Did you? I decided to pass on the Akira and Shiki couple figures though as while that is my favourite ending, I'm just not a huge TnC fan! I dunno, maybe I'll regret it in the future. But right now I think I'm ok with it. I also just would like to save my money a bit. The nazikira figure that was just previewed is also gorgeous, but again just not a huge TnC fan. Though I do appreciate that this new figure removed the obvious nazi armband and eagle from his cap at the very least. If they ever released a new Lamento figure I'd pick that up. But I doubt they would as it's an older game with lesser known/marketable characters. DnD catboy isn't as marketable as emo yaoi boy in his undies and emo yaoi boy dressed as a nazi. You know what character I would really piss my pants for over a figure? Tamamori. That stupid cringe nerd would make suuuch a cute figure, especially if he had Fsrogman perched on his shoulder or something.
I think that's all I had to talk about. OUAF is in like two months now, coming up super fast. I wanna save up a liiittle bit more for it, less for the con itself and more for shopping outside of con lol. I'm excited. Life is good.
Until next time!
