Hello everyone! Long time no blog, as usual. Things sure have been busy for me. The most notable bit of news to share with you is that I QUIT MY JOB!!! I'm finally out of there!! And I start my new job at a thrift store on Friday! I'm so excited. Doesn't a job at a thrift store just sound perfect for me? I'm a little nervous but doing my best not to be. It's more hours, higher pay and closer to my home. It's also on the outskirts of the CBD so I'll no longer have to walk through the shady city parts of town to go to work and back. I'm going to practise the route and time how long it takes me to walk there tomorrow, but the last time I did it I took roughly 25 minutes. It's a significantly shorter distance but due to having to cross so many busy roads it ends up taking the same amount of time to walk. I hope in the future I'll be able to share with you all lots of fun and interested finds that come through my new store!!
Future plans aside, I've been up to quite a few really fun things since my last blog! My dear friend S and I tabled at a local convention where I had tons of fun. I got photos of lots of cool cosplayers and even got photos with an Aoba and a Clear!! While I was at this convention, I struck up a conversation with this nice older gentleman running a stall for retro action figures and comics. His stall happened to have a few slightly geeky VHS tapes so I asked if he had any anime tapes at all. He told me that him and his wife had just received a shipment of 1000 old tapes that they were trying to sort through and some of them were apparently anime. I gave him my number and he said he'd let me know if he found anything interesting. After the con was over I decided to email the guy to offer to help sort them (as he was quite old and that's a lot of tapes) and ended up chatting with his wife who is apparently the brains of the operation. She eventually got back to me and said they'd finished sorting the tapes, but because it was so nice that I offered to help, would you like to have a first pick through them? And I said "hell yeah!"
So me and D drive about an hour to these guys house and literally nothing could have prepared me for what I discovered. These guys had around 800 tapes. All of them were rare anime tapes. I'd never seen so many anime tapes in my entire life and I doubt I ever will again. Many full series sets, a huge amount still factory sealed. Oh my god. So much vintsge hentai... I didn't even know there was this much physical anime porn in the fucking country let alone on VHS in the house of this random couple of antique dealers. Alas I wasn't able to take photos as this was in their house I bought as many tapes as I could possible justify, as well as a cute lil Sirene figure from the 2004 Devilman live action movie. If you're New Zealand based and looking to find some obscure retro nerd stuff, I highly recommend getting in touch with Bridget at Retro Nerds NZ. She's a real one fr. Many of the tapes the original owner made cute custom decals and case covers for.
I didn't really know where to put this, but I also went to my first ever burlesque show which was amazing. Stripping aside, I was in awe of the physical feats these ladies were showing off. My favourite performance was a cowboy themed one where the chick was doing super insane whip tricks to the beat of the music and also she had multiple tiny cowboy hats hidden in her outfit and whenever she took an item of clothing off there was a smaller cowboy hat under there. Incredible stuff.
I also had my little Olivine plushie order finally arrive! My first Nu: Carnival plushie... I'm very excited for the upcoming Eiden nendoroid and bunny figure. I reeeeally hope e get more than a teaser/announcement for the bunny figure soon. I really enjoy collecting male figures. I love female figures too don't get me wrong, I really want more pretty girl ones with flowing lolita-esque dresses. Male figures just feel so self indulgent. I love it.
Onto our media segment, I played through Black Butler: Phantom & Ghost for the DS. Playing it made me feel like a squealing tweenage girl again. It's a very cute and fun game, felt like watching a filler episode from the first anime. I also finally started Hanazawa's route in Hashihime of Old Book Town but didn't get very far into it. Hanazawa scares me... But at the start of his route he's so cute so like I'm even more scared... But it's worth it to see more of Hakase. I love that silly lil guy.
