Ding Dong! December!

Hello friends! I'm blogging to you LIVE from my new flat!!! Moving was, as always, very tiring but I got it done and I'm now more or less settled in. I still need to finalize how I'm displaying all my nerd shit but like that's the least important thing. I'll post pics when I've got it more sussed out. I'm living with my wonderful friend D and also one other housemate. There are also two cats Dawn and Dusk. Dawn is very outgoing, friendly and vocal. We are already good friends. Dawn is shy and reserved, but we've slowly become friends and I've discovered she loves to cuddle. My new place is a little further from town but still within walking distance from my work. I'm hoping the longer will will help my fitness and maybe even let me trim down a bit more in preparation for my Japan trip uhuhuhu.
I'm also now living in walking distance from all of my friend's houses which is really awesome! I can attend movie nights and random hangouts without lots of planning and having to pay for an uber. AND I'm really close to my favorite thrift store and to the craft shop so this is just win after win after win. D and I also share a lot of similar interests, especially in thrifting and fiber crafts. We've been op shopping together a couple times already and I've been picking up some new patterns and fabrics!
I've been really meaning to get back into sewing. I need some more just throw on and go summer dresses. When I sew I have a bad habit of saying I'm making something casual and then adding a bow here and a ruffle there and well now that those are on it I might as well add some lace too. And before you know it I can't wear that shit out anywhere. I did manage to throw together this gorgeous 1972 Simplicity halter neck sailor dress! It's super cute and I actually feel very attractive wearing it.
While I haven't been sewing much recently, I have been going absolutely beast mode on my cross stitch. Look at that thing! Literally only the backstitching to go and I'm done. I've decided I'm going to make it into a wall hanging as I am
not paying to get glass cut for this behemoth to be framed. But that also means I can sew some lace onto the sides and maybe add some beads yippie!! I'm so excited to finally have this on my wall. While I have been saying I wanted to make that candlewicked bunny plush after the big cross stitch, I think I might do a couple smaller projects before I do another huge one. I wanna enjoy having some more smaller completed projects. I'm thinking of doing a few embroidered towels as I got some patterns for super cute towel band cross stitch.
In terms of media, I've binged watched a wee bit of anime recently. I've been watching in dub so I can stitch while I watch. Currently I'm rewatching
Lucky Star and it's so much more fun now that I get a lot of the references. I've also been kind of obsessed with playing Sanrio Picross on my 3DS. Need more mini games in my life fr.
The other piece of media taking up space in my brain right now is cute girly YouTube vlogs, especially thrift with me vlogs. I've been in the mood to thrift recently but life has been getting in the way, so I'm watching other cute girlies do it instead! It really makes me want to try vlogging ahhh.. But New Zealand is a really boring country to vlog in (unless you're in like,, Auckland or Wellington) as it's small and not very kawaii desu ne uwu you know? But maybe I could try over the summer. D and I have a few op shop trips planned a little further abroad. Some towns an hour or so away that have really good op shops. I really want to find some nice wooden shelves to put on my walls to hold my nicknacks. I'm also suuper into Precious Moments right now but they're near impossible to find here!!
In the same vein I've also been watching a few fashion video essays. Stuff on trends and "do you actually like it or are you just being influenced" and it keeps making me nervous like... Maybe I am being influenced? Am I really a fan of the things I like/wear/make? Or am I just doing it because it's popular right now? I'm probably thinking about it too much. Oh well! Whatever!
Until next time!
